Stephanie has no idea what her uncle has gotten her into when she inherits his home after his mysterious death. When Stephanie is attacked in her new home, Skulduggery Pleasant comes to her rescue. Stephanie is then thrown into a land of magic and wonder that she could have never dreamed up. Unfortunately, with this new found knowledge comes a lot of danger.

Stephanie Edgley, the main character of Skulduggery Pleasant, makes readers identify with her through her grand journey. She is a plucky young girl that experiences the extraordinary and takes the reader along for the ride. Her excited attitude towards those crazy events makes the reader want to believe. The plot of the book is logical and believable. The story begins with an ordinary girl and her ordinary life. She then falls into a crazy world of danger and adventure.
